Photographer Kei Murata’s series, All I Can See, explores the mysteries of human vision through the backdrop of Ginza, uncovering the unnoticed depths that shape our perception.

In the landscapes we glance over without thought, certain details catch and linger—subtle, almost imperceptible. Though fleeting, these fragments quietly influence how we see and remember. Through Murata’s lens, we step into this delicate awareness.

#2: “Caught in Sight”

A hangnail on a fingertip. A bur tangled in a dog’s fur. These small snags go unnoticed at first, but as they cling to fabric or fur, they gather fibers and dust, shifting into something new—an accumulation, a distortion of their original form. Perhaps vision, too, has such moments of entanglement.

When we fix our gaze on something, the surrounding details blur and fade into the periphery, slipping beyond focus. These visual gaps collect stray fragments, weaving them into something unseen. Dust drifts through the air, tracing the softened contours of distant mountains. Roadside grass melts into the colors of the horizon. In these in-between spaces, scales unravel and intertwine, forming quiet connections.

Like a hangnail unconsciously catching onto fabric, like a bur carried far away before taking root, the unnoticed elements caught in our vision may also be quietly shaping new landscapes.

Born in 1990, Kei Murata is an artist and photographer based in Tokyo. With a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts (2016), Murata creates works that examine the transformations of perception and scale, using photography and video as his primary mediums.
