写真家、村田啓さんによる新連載がはじまります。
多くの人が抱く”銀座”に対する一様なイメージ。しかし、実際にそれぞれの人が目にしている銀座は違うのかもしれません。視覚の不思議を手がかりに、この街の見え方を探ります。
その眼差しを通せば、知っているはずの銀座が、これまで見たことのない姿として立ち上がるかもしれません。
#1 「鼻根の少し先」
左右の目で見えている風景が違うことにいつも心踊らされる。何を思うともなくものを見ているとき、右目と左目と交互に瞬きを繰り返してみる。それらの視点のズレは思いのほか大きく、捉え難い隙間として鼻根の少し先に立ち上がってくる。心地の良い卓球のラリーを思い起こしながら、瞬きの速度を早めていく。２つの視点の行き来は映画の前後のコマが反復しているようにも見え、架空のタイムラインを想像することができる。前後のコマを編み込んでみたり、透過させてみたり、新たなコマを練りだしてみたり。これらが映画の中にある隙間を繋ぎ、滑らかな時間を捉える方法だとするならば、右目の私と左目の私がつくりだした隙間はどのように繋がれ、何を捉えているのだろうか。眼前に浮かぶ埃や遠く霞んでいる山々、左右の視界から漏れ出た光景を無意識のうちに捉える引っ掛かり。
風景の連鎖、その隙間、ささくれ、馬の目。
村田 啓
アーティスト/写真家
1990年生まれ。現在東京を拠点に活動。2016年、東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科絵画油画専攻修了。視覚やスケールの変容への興味を基として写真や映像を用いた作品制作を行っている。

A new series by photographer Kei Murata begins.
Ginza— a place that evokes a familiar image for many. Yet, the Ginza each person sees may be entirely different. Murata explores the mysteries of perception, uncovering the shifting ways this city reveals itself.
Through his gaze, the Ginza you thought you knew may take on a form you’ve never seen before.
#1: “A Blink Beyond A Nose”
I am always drawn to the way my left and right eyes see different things.
When I’m looking at something without thinking, I start blinking alternately between my right and left eyes. The discrepancy between the two views is greater than expected, rising as an elusive gap just beyond the bridge of my nose. As I quicken the pace of my blinks, it reminds me of the steady rhythm of a table tennis rally. The shifting perspectives flicker like film frames, creating an imagined timeline.
I weave the frames together, let them dissolve, or conjure entirely new ones. If this is how cinema fills its gaps and smooths the flow of time, then what about the gap formed between my right-eye self and my left-eye self? How does it connect? What does it capture?
The bridge of my nose catches what drifts between these two visions—floating dust, distant mountains blurred in haze, fragments slipping through the edges of sight. A slight snag in perception, holding onto what would otherwise pass unnoticed.

Kei Murata
Artist / Photographer
Born in 1990, Kei Murata is an artist and photographer based in Tokyo. With a Master’s degree in Oil Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts (2016), Murata creates works that examine the transformations of perception and scale, using photography and video as his primary mediums.
